Breaking my Fast for Lutheran Spirituality!

I’m breaking my Lenten Blog Fast to mention a wonderful book on spirituality I’m tearing through right now: The Grace that Frees by Bradley Hanson.  This book is in Orbis Books’ Traditions of Christian Spirituality Series.  I’m only about a third through the book, but in it he articulates a Lutheran path of spirituality grounded in a Lutheran understanding of grace.  He also takes the Lutheran understanding of sin seriously and offers valuable critiques of spiritual practices that seek to attain godliness, accept God, or otherwise contribute to a salvific state.  It is a marvellous book, and I recommend it to all!  Hanson is also the author of A Graceful Life: Lutheran Spirituality for Today.

Many thanks to LutheranChik for getting this first Lutheran Carnival going with the theme of Lutheran Spirituality.  Great job!
