At my synod assembly this weekend we elected a new bishop, Claire Burkat, to replace retiring Bishop Roy Almquist. And as exciting as that was (and it was exciting), it doesn’t match the eye-popping anticipation some of us felt on Friday morning at the beginning of the assembly. One of the first pieces of paper to be distributed to the delegates was excerpts from our synod constitution on the election of a bishop. However, the header read:
CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS ON THE EXECUTION OF A BISHOP
I’ve heard people say that the job of bishop is a killer, but wow, that puts a whole new spin on it. Before this flyer even got too far it was quickly collected and a new one was distributed . . .
Waste of paper. Was the secretary executed?
That’s pretty cool. It doesn’t sound like you had a chance to keep a copy for yourself, that’s too bad I’d have loved to see it.
Peace,
Chris
