Very good news indeed. Of course, that may sound like sour grapes as I’m a diehard Cubs fan, but frankly, baseball to me is not about these flash in the pan guys like McGwire or even Sosa. Give me Cal Ripken any day — the man did more than just hit HRs, he showed up every day and played for the good of the Orioles, not for the stats on his Topps card. That’s what makes me fall in love with the game over and over again.
As a huge Cal fan I was delighted to hear the news that #8 was inducted. My family has been waiting a long time for this day. For Christmas my mother bought us all Hall of Fame memberships for the year so we can travel as a family up to Cooperstown for the big day! As we use to say…”drink your milk Cal”…go Iron Man!

I was please with the selections as well. The other things I really liked is that these two guys were with the same team throughout their careers. A real rarity in baseball (of all the main professional sports).
The debate continues as to whether McGwire alleged past steroid abuse will haunt him. I would say that this would be more daunting than Rose’s gambling issues. McGwire’s is performanced based, Rose’s really wasn’t. It continues,…
