Last month Bishop Margarita Martinez died of cancer. I was blessed to worship with her at Iglesia Luterana La Esperanza de Santa Maria in Chicago many years ago when I was a seminary student working 10 hours/week at the church. She was a great leader for our denomination – compassionate, passionate, dedicated, faithful, and fun. I am blessed that my path crossed with hers for a year in the late ’90s.
Thank you, God, for the life and witness of your daughter Margarita. May her faith and work be an inspiration to all your church, and grant that those who mourn be comforted with the knowledge that she is at peace with you. Through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
