The Phillies Win! The Phillies Win! For the first time in 14 years, the Phillies win!
(This is the only picture I could find within minutes of the game!)
Last time the Phillies went to the playoffs, I had just moved into my dorm room at William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Now, just shy of two months after moving into our townhouse in Fairfax, VA, the Phillies are again in the playoffs. Coincidence?
And perhaps the other piece of wonderful news . . . the "Amazing" Mets finished the season in second place, and out of wild card contention. Take a seat, New York! You make the ’64 Phillies’ collapse look not so bad!
Of course, there will be a post later about how imperfect this team is, and how our screwy system of expansion baseball and four playoff berths per league creates a rather mediocre postseason . . . but that’s for later. For now, let’s celebrate, baby!
Let’s go Phillies! Let’s go Phillies! Let’s go Phillies!
PS. Thanks, Dad, for the phone call from Greece!

So if you moved to say…. Miami, do you think the Cubs could get a chance at the World Series?
Congrats! I’ve been rooting for the Phillies over the Mets the last few days as they really became contenders in the race for the division.
I am happier, though, that my Cubbies also made it into the postseason, and if both teams advance, I won’t be rooting for the Phillies any longer. 😉
Quite a few Seminarians were there. They said the crowd went nuts. I was writing a paper on Christology… oh well.
Ok, I have to confess that I am not so much thrilled that the Phillies won it, but much more so that the Mets blew it. Stupid Mets!
So you move out of town and the Phillies get good? I’d try not to take it too personally 😉
I would be much more apt to cheer for the Phillies this year if my Cubs weren’t also in the playoff race. Still our curse has a long record of showing up at inopportune moments so if we fall victim to it again I’ll wish the Phillies all the luck for the Series!
Well, atleast you have the shirt and cap.
