Why you won’t find me in the NYT style section

The cover of The New York Times Style Magazine’s Travel Fall 2005 edition has a picture of a well-dressed woman in an elegant row boat (not the kind you rent at the state park) on a lake surrounded by beautiful, snowcapped mountains. The photo’s caption, found on the inside contents page, reads:

"The splendor of autumn is tailor-made for sightseeing. To guard against the crisp air, a Marni coat, $1,377, and skirt, $906, can come in handy."

Yes, I often think that a $2000 boutique outfit would "come in handy" while I’m roughing-it in The Great Outdoors.

Give me a break . . .
